4 eggs dash cinnamon & nutmeg 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 c candied orange peel 2 c sugar 1/2 c candied lemon peel 2/3 c honey 1/2 c raisins 3/4 lb unblanched almonds, cut in strips 1/2 tsp baking soda 5 c flour (whole wheat, if desired) 3 1/2 tsp ground cloves Beat eggs. Add sugar gradually; beat in well. Add honey and almonds. Sift flour. Measure and sift with soda & spices. Mix candied peel & raisins with flour. Add to first mixture gradually, stirring in well. Add a little water if necessary. Chill thoroughly. Set oven at 350x. Bake in well-greased pans (9"x12-13" or any size) and spread out smoothly in pans. (Usually about 1/2" thickness.) Bake in moderate oven--350x--about 30 min. Cool. Cut as you please and frost with a cream-and-powdered-sugar frosting or roll in powdered sugar. 1991: 1.5 recipes; 90% of cloves. 1992: 1.5 recipes; 90% of cloves; orange peel for lemon peel. 1993, '94 : 1.5 recipes.
